We are 490 nm out as I write this update. Having been blessed with great weather thus far, we are making good time. Winds have been favorable for us to head northeast. Seas have been mostly 3-5 ft with us seeing some bigger swells overnight and earlier this morning. Last night’s watches saw temps drop a little with the need for vests and light jackets. The sounds of the rigging singing as we saw 18 to 20 knot gusts urged us to make good time.
We have seen large swaths of Saragossa seaweed. It is good to know those ecosystems are thriving out here.
The crew has been working diligently to find our favorite spots at the helm. Some prefer the cooler top, others the corner on the low side. The shorter of us have been experimenting with cushion placement to bridge the extra space.
Dinners have been delicious. First night out was lemon chicken with egg noodles. It was so good the leftovers came back , by popular demand, for lunch the next day. Last nights veggie lasagna was also a big hit. No one is going hungry on this trip.
Highlights thus far included a pair of birds that kept us company for a day, a whale sighting, and best of all, photos from Phil’s daughter’s prom.
Some photos …
